Our customer approached us with a clear vision for their unusual garden studio. Their L shaped graph paper sketch showed a room wrapped around, and widening behind their house. The structure was intended to take the place of a previous rectangular shed, providing a creative space for painting or just relaxing. After meeting the home owners, the sketch was made into a basic scaled 3D model to check the internal space available. The views across the neighbouring fields were maximised with above-desk height windows. French doors opened onto the existing composite decking.
The property had good access on both sides and the remaining passageway would only be slightly narrower than before with the old shed in place. After further investigation it became apparent that the owners would need to obtain Planning Permission because the house is in an Area Of Outstanding Beauty (AONB) and this room would be beside the house, rather than just behind it. The plans were drawn and we completed the planning application. Happily, the plans were approved by South Hams Council on time, with great communication. The resulting quality build wraps around the house and has amazing views across the countryside.
